Meet
Marilyn ‘Nefer Ra’ Barber
Meet Marilyn Nefer RA Barber, a visionary leader in the food justice movement. As a founding member of DBCFSN (Detroit Black Community Food Security Network), Marilyn has been instrumental in shaping food policy in Detroit, advocating for equitable access to healthy food for all. Her dedication to community empowerment led her to serve on the food policy council for two terms, amplifying voices often marginalized in decision-making processes. Marilyn's commitment to sustainable agriculture is evident in her role as the first farm manager of D Town Farms, where she cultivated not just crops, but also a sense of pride and self-sufficiency within the community. Her impactful work was featured in the documentary "Urban Roots," bringing attention to the vital role of urban farming in revitalizing communities. Currently, as the Program Coordinator for the Earth Agriculture Training Program, Marilyn continues to inspire and educate the next generation of changemakers in sustainable agriculture and food justice.
